We've applied to the CRA for charitable registration. What that means

How we make decisions.

  1. Step 1: Our board sets the rules

It decides who is eligible and how applications are scored, and reviews those rules every year. It never chooses individual recipients.

  2. Step 2: Our Program Coordinator scores

Every application is screened and scored using a written rubric.

  3. Step 3: Volunteers decide

A Selection Committee of at least two unpaid volunteers makes the final decision. At least one member has no ties to our directors. Anyone with a conflict of interest declares it and steps out.

  4. Step 4: Everything is recorded

Every decision and score is documented and kept with our records.

Why it's built this way

Some of our directors are related to each other. That's one reason the final decisions on who receives support are made by an independent volunteer committee.

Charity status

Furgus Foundation has applied to the Canada Revenue Agency for registration as a charity. Our application is under review. We are not able to issue tax receipts at this time.

Annual reports

Our first report will be published after our first year of operation.
